Warm Smile Animation: Add a Natural Smile to a Portrait With AI
A real smile is gentle and a little slow: eyes crinkle, cheeks lift, and a glance finds the camera. The Warm Smile preset aims for exactly that on a front-facing portrait. It is one of the most requested effects, and also one that deserves a moment of thought about when it is appropriate.
- Warm Smile gives a front-facing portrait a natural smile and a glance to the camera in about 5 seconds.
- It costs 1 credit on Standard quality.
- It works best on sharp, front-facing, evenly lit portraits.
- Think before changing a person’s expression: it alters the moment the photo captured.
What the Preset Does
You upload a portrait, and the preset generates a clip in which the person’s expression warms into a smile and they look toward the camera. Unlike Photo Comes Alive, which adds subtle blinks and breathing, Warm Smile has a clearer arc: from neutral to smiling. Our tuned instructions also ask the model to keep the face, clothing and background otherwise unchanged. See Photo Comes Alive for the quieter option.
Standard quality runs on Kling v2.1 for 1 credit. Pro quality runs on Kling 3.0 Pro for 2 credits and needs the Pro or Studio plan. Test on Standard first.
Which Portraits Suit It
| Good | Why | Avoid | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front-facing, both eyes visible | The smile has a clear face to work on | Profile or turned-away faces | Not enough of the face |
| Neutral or soft expression | A natural starting point | Already laughing or grimacing | The arc conflicts |
| Even, soft light | Stable skin and teeth rendering | Hard shadows across the face | Flicker as the face changes |
| Mouth closed or slightly open | Easier to render | Wide-open mouth | Teeth can warp |
| No sunglasses or heavy hair across the face | Clear expression change | Face partly covered | Parts of the smile invented |

When to Think Twice
A photo records a moment, and a smile that was not there changes it. There is nothing wrong with a playful animation of your own picture. But some uses call for care:
- Photos of people who have died. A smile they never made may comfort some families and distress others. Ask the family, and consider the gentler Photo Comes Alive instead. See our memorial video guide.
- Photos of other people. Get their permission. Changing someone’s expression without consent can feel intrusive.
- Official or evidentiary photos. Never alter ID photos, documents or anything presented as a record of fact.
- Sensitive moments. A serious or sad occasion should keep its mood.
Good Uses
- A friendly animated profile image for your own website or channel intro.
- A birthday or greeting clip using a photo of a family member who is happy to take part.
- Team pages where every person has agreed.
- A playful animated version of your own portrait for social media.

The man slowly breaks into a warm, natural smile and looks at the camera. His eyes crinkle slightly. The rest of the scene stays still. Soft natural light, subtle movement.Kling v2.1 is 1 credit, Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro is 2, Kling 3.0 Pro is 2 (Pro and Studio). More portrait advice in our ten portrait tips.
