Pay-Per-Use vs Subscription for AI Video: Which Is Cheaper?
You can use PulseMotionHub two ways: buy credits when you need them, or subscribe and get credits every month. Neither is always cheaper. The right choice depends on how steadily you make videos and whether you need the models that come only with a plan. Here is the math, with the actual prices.
- If you use all your credits every month, a plan is cheaper per credit.
- If you create in bursts, pay-per-use wins because purchased credits never expire.
- Kling 3.0 Pro, Premium Video, Seedance 2.5, Infinite Angles and AI Director are plan features. Pay-per-use credits cover the other tools.
- Unused subscription credits carry over, so a slow month does not waste them.
How Each Option Works
Pay-per-use. Buy any amount from 10 to 2,000 credits. There is no subscription and no renewal. Credits you buy never expire, and larger purchases cost less per credit: $0.60 under 50, $0.58 from 50 to 199, $0.52 from 200 to 999, and $0.46 at 1,000 or more.
Subscription. Starter is $47 a month for 90 credits, Pro is $97 for 200, and Studio is $197 for 500. Each renewal adds that many credits to your balance, and unused ones carry over. You can cancel at any time, and you keep access to what you have already paid for.
New customers get 20% off their first card payment on either route.
The Price per Credit, Side by Side
| Credits you want in a month | Pay-per-use | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 45 credits | $27.00 ($0.60 each) | n/a (Starter is 90) |
| 90 credits | $52.20 ($0.58 each) | Starter: $47 |
| 200 credits | $104.00 ($0.52 each) | Pro: $97 |
| 500 credits | $260.00 ($0.52 each) | Studio: $197 |
| 1000 credits | $460.00 ($0.46 each) | two Studio months: $394 |
The pattern is simple. At 90 credits, Starter ($47) is cheaper than buying 90 credits pay-per-use ($52.20). At 200 credits, Pro ($97) is cheaper than pay-per-use ($104). At 500, Studio ($197) is far cheaper than $260. The plan always wins on price if you use the credits. Pay-per-use only wins when you would not.
When Pay-Per-Use Is the Better Choice
- You create in bursts. A product launch, a wedding, a campaign. Buy what the project needs and stop.
- You are testing. Ten credits is enough to try image to video, an effect preset and a lipsync clip.
- Your usage is unpredictable. Purchased credits sit in your balance for as long as you like.
When a Plan Is the Better Choice
- You make videos every week. The lower price per credit adds up.
- You need plan-only tools. Pro and Studio unlock Kling 3.0 Pro, the Premium tab (Seedance and Veo), Seedance 2.5, Infinite Angles and Pro-quality presets. Studio adds AI Director.
- You want predictable monthly spending. One charge, and credits that roll forward.
Start with a small pay-per-use purchase. You can subscribe later, and your purchased credits stay in your balance.
Can You Mix the Two?
Yes. Many people subscribe for a steady base and top up with one-time credits when a busy month hits. A 50-credit top-up is $29, and those credits never expire. Going the other way also works: buy credits first, then subscribe once your usage settles.
Three Example Users
- A freelancer with two client videos a month. That is perhaps 30 to 60 credits including retries. Buying 50 to 100 credits as needed is simple, and nothing expires if a month is quiet.
- A small business posting weekly. Around 90 credits a month is realistic. Starter at $47 costs less than the same 90 credits bought pay-per-use ($52.20), and the extra credits roll over.
- Someone who wants the newest premium models. Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1 and Kling 3.0 Pro are plan features, so a Pro plan is the route. Pay-per-use credits will not unlock them.
These are illustrations, not predictions. Your own usage is the thing to measure.
A Quick Way to Decide
Frequently Asked Questions
Is pay-per-use cheaper than a subscription for AI video?
Only if you would not use all of a plan’s credits. At the same number of credits, a plan costs less per credit than pay-per-use. Pay-per-use wins for occasional use because purchased credits never expire.
Do pay-per-use credits expire?
No. Credits bought as a one-time purchase never expire.
Do unused subscription credits roll over?
Yes. Each renewal adds your plan’s credits to your existing balance instead of resetting it.
Which tools need a subscription?
Kling 3.0 Pro, the Premium Video tab (Seedance 1.5 and 2.0 Fast, Veo 3.1), Seedance 2.5, Infinite Angles and Pro-quality presets need the Pro or Studio plan. AI Director needs Studio. The other tools work on pay-per-use credits.
Can I cancel a subscription at any time?
Yes. Cancel from your account whenever you like. You keep what you have already paid for through the end of the billing period.
